His family eventually moved to Washington state, and while attending college, Ray discovered his fascination with synthesizers. He performed in the stage production of Godspell, and found inspiration in the music of Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and Switched on Bach. However, his experimenting with electronic music was postponed when his rock band, Shadow, launched a 7 year tour of the U.S. The offer of a record and movie deal brought Ray and his band to Los Angeles in the late ’70s, where he continued to perform and record. Eventually, his excellent sense of sound guided him toward a profession as a recording engineer. He has mixed records for Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, REO Speedwagon, Ratt, Dio, the Pointer Sisters and many others. His dedication to sound has rewarded him with 3 Emmy’s, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Gold album. He has helped to sell over 5 million records. After a decade of engineering records, Leonard moved to post production for television where he made a name for himself as a top mixer in the field of animation. He won an Emmy for his work on Disney’s Aladdin. He then went on to win two more Emmy’s for Back to the Future. Leonard has been nominated for a total of 11 Emmy’s. He has also mixed such popular series as 101 Dalmations, Spiderman, Pink Panther, Jumanji, The Land Before Time, Godzilla, All Dogs go to Heaven, Starship Troopers, Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom. Having settled into family life, he established a home studio, formed his own record label and began searching for unheard of sounds that were both healing and uplifting. A very important influence arrived with the birth of his son. "As a result of becoming a parent, I've become more nurturing and less critical; he teaches me more than I teach him." This music is multi-dimensional and can be experienced in many ways. In listening to his soundscapes one gets the sense of each track ascending to a higher level. The songs are textural and melodic, conveying a sense of wonder and discovery. They help to calm the mind, body and soul. His music is featured in yoga classes as well as health spas and hospitals. It is the ultimate soundtrack for relaxation. While he has a humble attitude toward his gift for creating this relaxing music, it is apparent to any listener that he has found the ideal avenue for exploring and sharing his personal spirituality. “My music is slow and soothing, It is filled with love and hope, and my aim is to heal the world in a small way through music.” |
